This Annapurna jeep tour is of easy to moderate difficulty. It involves traveling by Jeep on mountain roads rather than strenuous trekking. Daily activities include scenic drives and short walks around villages or viewpoints. No technical climbing or multi-day hiking is required. You can set the pace to your liking.
The highest elevation is modest (about 3,540 m at Manang), so serious altitude effects are unlikely. This trip is suitable for most ages and fitness levels, although being comfortable on bumpy roads and able to do short hikes will enhance your comfort.
Nepal has four distinct seasons. The best time for the Annapurna jeep tour is spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November). Spring brings mild temperatures and blooming rhododendrons; autumn offers clear skies and stable weather after the monsoon.
Summer (June–August) is the monsoon season – lower areas see heavy rains, and some roads may be slippery (Manang is drier due to rain-shadow but can still be dusty).
Winter (December–February) is cold; nights can be freezing, and occasional snow may block higher roads. In general, it is possible to note that the scheduling of the jeep tour in spring or fall is comfortable and scenic.
There are numerous different restaurants to choose from in Kathmandu and Chitwan that offer Nepali and international cuisine. During the Annapurna jeep tour, all breakfasts, lunch, and dinner will be offered in lodges and guesthouses. Common foods are dal bhat (rice and lentils, and vegetables), curries, momo (dumpling), and soups.
Tea and coffee (including local milk tea) are served with meals. Purified or boiled drinking water is supplied, so avoid tap water. We recommend staying hydrated, especially at higher elevations. Pack small snacks (nuts, energy bars) for long drives if you like. Dietary requests (vegetarian, etc.) are best noted in advance, and Nepali cuisine can usually accommodate them.
This tour reaches a maximum of about 3,540 m above sea level (Manang). Mild altitude effects (headache, slight nausea, fatigue) are possible at this height. To reduce risk, the itinerary ascends gradually and includes rest periods. Drink plenty of water and limit alcohol intake. Climb slowly if hiking (most walks are at a moderate pace). Our guides monitor everyone’s condition.
Serious altitude sickness is very unlikely on this route, but if someone feels unwell, the group can stop or descend. Walking poles and medications like acetazolamide (Diamox) can help; consult your doctor. Always inform your guide if you feel any persistent symptoms.
Good overall health and basic fitness are recommended. Most travel is by Jeep, so long endurance is not required. However, be prepared for several hours of bumpy driving each day. You’ll do short hikes (2–4 hours) on some days, often on uneven mountain paths. We suggest some cardiovascular preparation beforehand (walking, jogging, climbing stairs).
If you can walk 30–60 minutes comfortably on flat ground, you should manage the light hiking parts. Bring sturdy walking shoes. No specialized training is needed, but being reasonably active will make the tour more enjoyable.
All foreign nationals need a valid Nepal entry visa. Visas can be obtained on arrival at Kathmandu airport (usually about $30 USD for 30 days) or at a Nepali consulate in advance. Multiple-entry visas are also available. No special trekking permits are needed for this Jeep tour beyond the standard permits.
The itinerary includes the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) fees. Remember to carry your passport for visa stamping and permit checks. Keep a few passport photos handy in case. We cover all permit fees in the tour cost.
Nepal is generally safe for travelers, but be reasonable. Keep valuables secured in Kathmandu (petty theft is rare but can happen in crowds). Always drink bottled or purified water. Eat freshly cooked food and wash your hands often.
In Chitwan (low jungle), use mosquito repellent—there is some malaria risk in the low season. Wear sunscreen and a hat at altitude (UV rays are strong). Roads can be steep; always wear your seatbelt in the Jeep.
There are well-maintained vehicles and experienced drivers. To be on the safe side, have travel insurance with coverage of medical evacuation. We offer hygienic food and clean rooms to reduce the health risks.
The tour’s main transport is a private 4WD Jeep with a professional driver. Jeeps seat about 4–6 passengers plus driver, and can handle the mountain terrain. All inter-city and Kathmandu sightseeing transfers use these vehicles (an SUV/Jeep) or a private car in the city. Fuel, tolls, and parking are included.
Roads on some days are unpaved and rugged; you should expect dusty, bumpy rides. We recommend bringing a small bag of anti-nausea medication if you are prone to motion sickness. The Jeep stays with the group throughout the Annapurna portion, ensuring convenience and flexibility.
For the Annapurna Jeep Tour, we strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance that covers emergency medical treatment, helicopter evacuation, trip cancellation, and lost luggage. Although this is a Jeep tour (not a trek), medical facilities are very basic in remote areas. High-altitude rescue can only be done by helicopter.
Without insurance, an evacuation can cost thousands of dollars. Carry a copy of your policy and emergency numbers. Check that your plan includes coverage up to at least 4,000 m and covers adventure activities (jungle safari, etc.). This ensures peace of mind in any unforeseen situation.
The standard route is Kathmandu → Manang (via Besisahar) → return (via Besisahar) → Chitwan → Kathmandu. If you have more time, you could extend by flying to Pokhara instead of returning directly (Pokhara adds lake scenery). Some travelers also fly out from Jomsom or Pokhara instead of Kathmandu.
Another alternative is skipping the Chitwan section and returning earlier. For trekking enthusiasts, after Manang, one could hike part of the Annapurna Circuit (e.g., to Tilicho Lake) before rejoining the Jeep route. Let us know if you want such variations; we can often customize the tour for you.
The package includes accommodations, meals on the tour, transportation, a guide, permits, and park fees as listed. Extras you should budget for Annapurna Jeep Tour include: tips for your guide and driver (customary in Nepal), personal snacks or drinks outside scheduled meals, souvenirs, bar bills, internet (some hotels charge for Wi-Fi), and optional activities.
International airfare and Nepal visa fees are not included. Charging your phone or taking hot showers in mountain lodges often requires a small fee (NPR 100–200). Bring enough cash (Nepali rupees) for small purchases – ATMs are only in major towns.
Nepali is the official language. In the Annapurna region, local people also speak ethnic languages (Gurung, Manangi dialects). Most guides, lodge staff, and drivers speak fluent English. In remote villages, English may not be common, so a smile and simple Nepali phrases (“Namaste” for hello, “Dhanyabad” for thank you) go a long way.
Mobile coverage (Ncell, Nepal Telecom) is available in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Besisahar, and some village centers (Lower Pisang, Manang). However, on higher mountain roads and at some viewpoints, there will be no signal. Internet (Wi-Fi) is available at most lodges and hotels, but it is slow in the mountains.
Most of the route in the Annapurna Jeep Tour has mobile network coverage in populated areas. You will have signal in Kathmandu, Besisahar, Pisang, and Manang, but expect gaps on high passes and deep valleys. Wi-Fi internet is available at hotels and lodges along the way (Kathmandu, Besisahar, Manang, Chitwan), though speeds can be slow or intermittent. Remote lodges may be solar-powered with some electricity.
Charging of phones and cameras is usually affordable at every lodge; certain lodges may charge a small amount (USD 1-2) or have restricted hours to charge their devices. We suggest that you have a portable battery pack as an emergency. Nepal operates on Type C, D, and M electric plugs (220 V), so carry an appropriate adapter.
Be respectful to local traditions and nature. Kindly avoid littering of trails or in villages. Take dustbins where possible or bring your trash along. During the safari activities, keep a distance from the animals and avoid disturbing them. Do not steal plants, stones, and other cultural objects like prayer flags or objects of temples. Only use bottled or purified water.
Do not walk alone or follow strange paths at night. In the villages, dress decently, and in Kathmandu. Visiting temples should be covered from the shoulders to and knees. Be quiet, and never take off your shoes when going into any temple or house.
The mountain roads and services can be slow; be patient during the Annapurna Jeep Tour. And lastly, do not forget to bring your camera in order to remember your beautiful moments.
If you’d like more adventure, consider extending your trip. A few days in Pokhara after Chitwan can be relaxing (boating on Phewa Lake, Himalayan viewpoints, caves). You could also arrange an Everest sightseeing flight from Kathmandu or a side trip to Lumbini (Buddha’s birthplace).
For hikers, we offer guided treks (Annapurna Circuit or Base Camp) starting in Pokhara or Manang after the Annapurna Jeep Tour. Another option is to add Bhutan or Tibet as a separate tour after Nepal. Let us know your interests—we’ll help plan the perfect extension!
Photography is a great way to capture Nepal’s beauty. Please ask permission before photographing people or religious ceremonies. Drones are restricted: flying them around heritage sites (Kathmandu monuments), Annapurna Conservation Area, and Chitwan Park is prohibited without special permits.
To fly legally, you need to be a registered drone and approved by the Civil Aviation (also not always viable for tourists). So, we do not suggest carrying a drone on this Annapurna Jeep Tour. Photography. It is important to adhere to park and local regulations and enjoy the beautiful landscape without any harm.
Nepal’s villages celebrate colorful festivals year-round. In Manang and Tibetan villages, Losar (Tibetan New Year) is in Jan/Feb with dances and rituals. In spring (around Mar/Apr), you might encounter harvest and monastery festivities as locals pray for a good season. The Gurung people in the region celebrate Tihar and Holi (Oct/Nov and March) with lights, prayers, and colorful powders.
In Chitwan, Tharu culture programs happen frequently (stick dance and songs). Dates vary each year. If a festival coincides with your Annapurna Jeep Tour, you’ll experience authentic local culture. Ask your guide if any village events are happening during your tour.
Carry plenty of Nepali Rupees (small notes) as tips and for shopping; ATMs outside Kathmandu can be unreliable. During the Annapurna Jeep Tour, wear layers of clothes in a pack; days are hot, but nights are cold, particularly in the mountains. Keep hydrated, and never drink alcohol when at high altitudes. A wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are required (sunburn and snow glare are strong).
A power connector that can be used in all types of devices and a power bank to keep backup power are handy. Greet them by saying Namaste (hands together); this is a sign of respect. Sample Nepali cuisine such as dal-bhat and momo.
Last, but not least, calm down and smile. Nepalese are friendly and hospitable, and an optimistic attitude will surely make your journey an easy and pleasant one.

Annapurna Jeep Tour is an adventure road trip in Nepal. You drive by Jeep into the high Himalaya from Kathmandu to mountain villages and mountain viewpoints. There are short walks between sightseeing stops.
A Jeep tour is a trail that is covered on the ground by a car rather than on foot. You still tour villages and vistas, but not with hikes a mile long every day. At stops, there is time to walk a short distance and capture photos, and sightsee. It is perfect among the travelers who would like to witness the Annapurna scenery without the actual trek.
Spring (March–May) and autumn (Sept–Nov) are best. Spring offers mild weather and blooming rhododendrons. Autumn has clear skies and stable conditions after the monsoon.
The tour is easy to moderate. Most travel is in a comfortable Jeep, so strenuous hiking isn’t needed. Short, easy walks are done at villages or viewpoints each day. You should be mobile enough for brief walking on uneven ground at an altitude (3,540 m.
Yes, it’s generally safe. The tour involves the use of 4WD vehicles that are in good condition and are operated by professional drivers. There is a group and a guide to travel with, which is more secure. Precautions are the norm: leave your valuables locked up and do not walk alone at night.
Many roads in the Annapurna area are rough and winding. Expect unpaved dirt tracks, potholes, and steep switchbacks. In the dry season, they are dusty; in the monsoon, they can be muddy or blocked by landslides.
You don’t need to be very fit. The tour is mostly in the Jeep. You will do only short hikes (a few hours) on some days. Being able to walk 30–60 minutes comfortably is enough. No special training is required, though doing some light exercise beforehand (like walking or stairs) will help.
Mild altitude sickness is possible. The highest altitude is about 3,540 m in Manang, which can cause headache or nausea in sensitive people. To reduce risk, we ascend gradually, drink plenty of water, and rest when needed.
You spend the night at a 3-star hotel in Kathmandu and a lodge in Chitwan (with a private bathroom and breakfast). In the Annapurna Jeep tour, the lodging is in clean lodges/guesthouses (twin-sharing) with basic facilities.
Yes, three meals a day are included during the tour portion. You’ll eat mostly Nepali and simple international meals. Breakfasts are standard (cereal, eggs, etc.). Lunches and dinners often include dal-bhat (rice with lentil soup), vegetables, curries, and sometimes meat or chicken.
Wi-Fi is available at most hotels and lodges (Kathmandu, Besisahar, Manang, Chitwan), though speeds are often slow. Mobile data (Ncell, Nepal Telecom) works in towns and valleys, but on the high mountain roads and in remote areas, there is little or no signal.
Variable weather layered clothing: T-shirts, warm (fleece or sweater), and a waterproof jacket. It can be cold at night, so you should bring a warm hat and gloves (note: there will be a down jacket). Trails Wear tough walking shoes or hiking boots. Bring sunglasses, sunscreen, toiletries, insect repellent, as well as any personal medications.
Yes, we can customize this tour. Many guests add days in Pokhara after Chitwan (for boating or relaxation). You could also skip Chitwan and drive back via Pokhara or Lumbini. Trekking extensions (e.g. a short hike near Manang) can be arranged if desired.
Most days include a bit of free time. For example, evenings in Kathmandu are free after the sightseeing tour, and Day 13 is completely free. In mountain villages (like Manang), afternoons are free after the morning drive or activities. In Chitwan, midday between morning and afternoon safaris is free.
Chitwan’s most famous resident is the one-horned rhinoceros – you will likely spot rhinos on safari. Deer (sambar deer and spotted deer) and monkeys (langurs, macaques) are common. Many bird species (kingfishers, eagles, hornbills, and more) are seen, especially on boat rides. Crocodiles often sunbathe on riverbanks. Tigers, leopards, and sloth bears live in the park but are rarely seen.
Tipping is optional but usual when you are served well. During a tour, it is nice to give a tip to a guide and driver at the end. Usually around US 5 -10 per day in total (divided between guide and driver), though whatever you consider fair will be acceptable.
Yes. Kathmandu and Chitwan hotels have reliable 220V electricity outlets for charging. Most mountain lodges also offer charging points (often using solar or generators) in the evening. Sometimes there is a small fee.
The currency of Nepal is Nepalese Rupee (NPR). It is better to spend some money in Kathmandu before the jeep tour begins. There are ATM in Kathmandu and Pokhara, but extremely few on the trail. Bring a sufficient amount of cash to tip, have snacks, drinks, and souvenirs.
Nepal is generally welcoming and safe. Solo travelers and women commonly travel here without issues. The people are friendly, and violent crime is rare. As with anywhere, use normal precautions: avoid walking alone in deserted areas at night and secure your belongings.
The guides carry first-aid kits and are trained in basic emergency care. For a minor illness or injury, we can often handle it on the spot. If someone becomes seriously ill, the plan is to move them to medical help immediately – either by Jeep to the nearest clinic or by arranging a helicopter evacuation (for which insurance is crucial).
