Overall, the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek checks all the boxes of a perfect dream vacation you have ever imagined.
The Annapurna region is influenced by the subtropical climate with moderate weather conditions all year round. Our short Ghorepani Poon hill trek takes you through the low-altitude region of Pokhara, Ghorepani, and Ghandruk. The highest altitude gain is at Poon Hill, where you will be at an elevation of 3,210 m. Therefore, the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is organized all year round.
However, if you ask about the best season for this trek, then spring and autumn can be the most desirable ones. From March to May (spring) and September to November ( Autumn), the temperature is 10 to 24 degrees Celsius. The beautiful crimson rhododendron blooms around the Ghorepani village.
You can also see dozens of different types of flowers in one trek, including clusters of primroses that bloom all over the meadow. The sight of the flowers blooming in sequence as you gradually increase in altitude makes the Himalayas even more beautiful and will be a great memory for trekkers who enjoy trekking.
During June to August (Summer/Monsoon) days, the temperature remains the same as in spring and autumn. But as the day passes, the clouds begin to form over the Himalayas, hiding them in their mist. As a result, you can’t see the Himalayas from beginning to end when you are out for about 5 to 6 hours a day.
On the other hand, the region also receives the most rain resulting in slippery and muddy trails with a probability of leech infestation. During December, January, and February (winter) days, the temperature is 4 to 15 degrees Celsius, with a likelihood of a thin layer of snow on the trail.
If you don’t mind the rain in summer and cold in winter, you can undertake this trek in these seasons as well.
Our short Ghorepani Poon hill trek is one of the easiest treks in the Annapurna region of Nepal. The daily trek ranges between 4 to 6 hours a day along the trails is relatively easy and has no technical difficulties. But the hike involves traversing through uphill and downhill trails, which demand good physical shape. You should be used to walking in these types of terrains so involving in walking for 4 to 6 hours a day before joining this trek would be an advantage.
In addition, the trek involves passing the Poon hill lying at just 3200 m, so you don’t need to worry about altitude sickness. Therefore, our Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is an excellent option for new trekkers, family vacations with the elderly and children, and friendly gatherings.
It is a great route for introduction to trekking in the Himalayas, to view the 6000 to 8000 m Mountain peaks, appropriate for ambitious adventures.
Make sure to take out appropriate travel insurance before you join our Ghorepani Poon Hill trek. Although the trek is relatively short and at a lower altitude, you never know what you will encounter in a foreign country. In addition, the Ghorepani Poon hill is situated in the mountainous terrain of Annapurna, so the weather conditions, although moderate throughout the year, can be unpredictable sometimes.
So, your travel insurance should support you financially in events of theft, luggage loss, medical bills, hospital emergencies, flight cancellation, and helicopter evacuation. Your travel insurance should be worth USD 1,00,000.00 at minimum.
