TRIP INTRODUCTION

Rapid Annapurna Base Camp Trek is the among the favorite trekking routes of the Annapurna Region. It is shorter than the standard Annapurna Base Camp Trek but no less in thrill and adventure. The trek is a bit difficult compared to other options to ABC because we will have to cover large distances in fewer days.

Rapid Annapurna Base Camp Trekking starts from the beautiful lake city of Pokhara in Western Nepal. We will enter the Annapurna sanctuary through Phedi, which is normally the end point of other Annapurna Treks. Our road passes through beautiful subtropical forests that are home to many endangered species of plants, animals and birds.

Beautiful villages, perched at the hilltops, provide a perfect resting spot for the night after long and tiring days of walk. The villages are mostly inhabited by the Gurung and Magar people. Their culture is unique and hospitality impeccable.

Places like Chomrung, Tolkha and Jhinu provide wonderful view of the mountains before reaching the base camp of Annapurna. The vegetation starts to turn alpine as we move further north. The path also gets steeper. We first reach the Machhapuchhre Base Camp (Mount Fishtail). Annapurna Base Camp (4,130 m) lies a little ahead of MBC.

Trip Route : Kathmandu- Pokhara - Tolkha- Chhomrong- MBC- ABC - Jhinu - Pokhara -Kathmandu

Best Month: September to December and March to May.

Day to Day Itinerary

  • Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu
  • 1300m

You will be picked up at the Tribhuvan International Airport. They will drop you at your hotel, where you will have some rest. Our company staffs will welcome you with a traditional Nepali dinner in the evening. They will later provide you information about the upcoming trek.

  • Day 02:
  • Time: 6-7 hours
    Altitude: 823 m/2,700 ft

We will drive to Pokhara today. The tourist bus, which we will board upon, takes about seven hours to reach Pokhara. We will have two stops on the road – a short one of 10 minutes for refreshment and a longer one of 30 minutes for lunch. We also have the option to travel by air and watch the mountains of Central and Western Nepal from up above. This option also saves time as the flight only takes about 30 minutes. This, however, comes at extra cost.

  • Day 03: Drive to Phedi and trek to Tolkha
  • Time: 5-6 hours
    Altitude: 1,850 m/6,069 ft

We will take a short drive by a private vehicle to Phedi, from where we start our trek. Dhampus (1,770 m/5,807 ft) is our first destination. It is a beautiful village which is also a popular short day hiking destination. The initial part of the trail is very steep and difficult. We walk through green forests and terraced farms.

Dhampus will offer us amazing view of the mountains in the Annapurna and Lamjung Himalayan ranges. Moving forward, we will walk past villages like Pothana (1,890 m/6,200 ft), Deurali and Bichok (2,149 m/7,050 ft). We will reach Tolkha at the end of the day, where we will stay overnight.

  • Day 04: Trek to Chhomrong
  • Time: 6-7 hours
    Altitude: 2,170 m/7,120 ft

Following the trails of Modi Khola, we will trek to the gateway of Annapurna Base Camp – Chhomrong. The trekking course is easy and flat until we reach Jhinu Danda (1,780 m/5,839 ft). It is a steep uphill climb from Jhinu to Chhomrong, where we will stay overnight. We will pass beautiful villages like Landruk (1,640 m/5,380 ft) and New Bridge (1,340 m/4,396 ft) on our way to Chhomrong.

Chhomrong is the largest Gurung village of the district. There are no alternative routes to reach Annapurna Base Camp without going past Chhomrong. Therefore, this village is also known as the gateway to Annapurna Base Camp.

  • Day 05: Trek to Himalaya Hotel
  • Time: 6-7 hours
    Altitude: 2,800 m/ 9,186 ft

We will have an early breakfast and begin our journey to Himalaya Hotel. We will first take a downhill path to Chhomrong Khola (stream) – originating from Hiunchuli glaciers. From Chhomrong Khola, the path is uphill and difficult until we reach Sinuwa.

The trail from Sinuwa is flat and easy for most part until we reach Bamboo (2,340 m/7,677 ft), where we will have Lunch. From Bamboo, the trail begins to go uphill. There are no huge settlements after Chhomrong and all villages are thinly populated. We finally reach Himalaya Hotel, where we rest for the night.

  • Day 06: Trek to Annapurna Base Camp
  • Altitude: 4,130 m/13,545 ft
    Time: 6-7 hours

We will have an early breakfast and head up to Deurali (3,230 m/10,579 ft). We will walk along the green forests in the base of Machhapuchhre. We reach the Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3,700 m/12,135 ft) after three hours of trek. We will rest there and have some energy gathering food.

Then we will continue our trek to Annapurna Base Camp, which will be intense despite the short duration and moderate steepness. The difficulty is mainly due to thin air pressure as we move higher. Annapurna Base camp is a paradise, offering 360 degree view of the mountains in the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri range to the trekkers.

  • Day 07: Trek to Bamboo
  • Time: 7-8 hours
    Altitude: 2,310 m/7,578 ft

We will wake up before the sun rises and enjoy the beautiful sight of sunrise over the mountains. The view will be breathtaking during the first hour of the morning. The view of sun ascending over Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Annapurna I, Fishtail etc. is beautiful. We will return to our lodge, have breakfast and continue our trek towards Bamboo, where we will stay overnight.

  • Day 08: Trek to Jhinu Danda
  • Time: 5-6 hours
    Altitude: 1,760 m/5,770 ft

We will trek back to Jhinu Danda (meaning hill) – through Sinuwa and Chhomrong village. This is the same path we took on our way up. We will first reach a place called Khuldi Ghar. We will then go down to Chomrong river. Jhinu hill is at an hour of hike from Chomrong. Jhinu Danda is famous for its natural natural hot water springs. We will enjoy bathing at the hot springs. Two rivers, Modi Khola and Kyumun Khola, meet at Jhinu.

  • Day 09: Trek to Nayapul and drive to Pokhara
  • Time: 6 hours
    Altitude: Nayapul (1,070 m/3,510 ft)

Today is our last day of trekking in the Annapurna sanctuary. The trail from Jhinu to Nayapul is flat and easy for most part. While trekking back, we will pass through villages like New Bridge, Syauli Bazaar, Birenthanti etc. Syauli Bazaar was a popular resting spot for trekkers prior to the construction of motorable road in the region. It has lost most of its  business now. We will find a vehicle waiting for us at Nayapul. It will drive us back to Pokhara.

  • Day 10: Drive back to Kathmandu
  • We will return back to Kathmandu today. We have the option to travel by air or bus. Travelling by bus takes about seven hours (including two rests on the road for refreshment and lunch). The journey is along the same route – Prithvi Highway – that we took on our way to Pokhara from Kathmandu. You also have the option to travel by air but you will have to pay separately for it.

  • Day 11: Departure
  • You will return back to your destination with beautiful memories of trekking in the Annapurnas. We will drop you at the airport after a small ceremony that will mark your departure. You will head back to your destination from the airport. You also have the option to extend your stay by adding a new trip.
