Ruby Valley Ganesh Himal Trek is one of the most beautiful trekking routes in Nepal. This route is new and visited by a small number of trekkers. This trek covers parts of the Langtang National Park and the Annapurna Conservation Area.

Ruby valley trek provides majestic view of peaks in the Central and Western part of Nepal. Peaks on sight include the Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung, Bouddha, Hiuchuli and Lakpa Dorje. The trek provides an experience of living with the wonderful Tamang and Gurung people of Nepal. The region, being less frequented by tourists, does not have many hotels and guest houses. Homestay is the only option for most part of the tour. The Tamangs and Gurungs have a rich and unique culture. Their hospitality is impeccable.

Ganesh is the elephant headed god of the Hindus. He is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The mountain is named after him. The region surrounding Ganesh Himal is famous for its Ruby, Zinc, Limestone, Granite and Copper deposits. It is believed that Sherthung, a place that lies on our trail, possesses gold deposits.

Most of your path will be covered by pine and rhododendron forests. Rhododendron is the national flower of Nepal. These forests are home to over 500 species of plants, 300 species of birds and hundreds of species of wild animals. Places settled by humans is characterized by beautiful terraced farms.

Other highlights of the trek includes the Chukarma waterfall, 200m, and the popular rock climbing spot in Bhandari Bhir. Pasang La Pass is the highest point and one of the most beautiful places of the trek.

Day to Day Itinerary

  • Day : 1: Arrival in Kathmandu
  • 1,300 m/ 4,264 ft

    You will land at the Tribhuvan International Airport. We will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to your hotel in a private vehicle. You will freshen up at your hotel and take some rest following a long flight. We will welcome you with traditional Nepali dinner in the evening. The dinner will take place at a typical Nepali restaurant. You will be accompanied by company managing director and guides during dinner. Dinner will be followed by live music and cultural dance.

  • Day : 2: Sightseeing and trek preparation
  • You will prepare for the trek by shopping for basic supplies like trek gears, medicines etc. These items are easily found in the market near your hotel. If you are willing then you can also go for sightseeing in Kathmandu valley. Kathmandu has many historical sites that are part of the UNESCO world heritage list. Major highlights include the three Durbar Square in Kathmandu, the Swayambhunath Stupa, Boudhanath Stupa and the Pashupatinath Temple.

  • Day : 3: Drive to Syabru Besi
  • 8-9 hours

  • Day : 4: Trek to Gatlang
  • 5-6 hours

    The first part of today’s trek is hard. We will walk steeply up for a few hours before we reach Ronga Bhanjyang. Ronga provides beautiful view of the mountains. We will walk an hour downhill to Gollijung from Ronga. We will wait for lunch at either Ronga or Gollijung. A few hours of walk from Gollijung will take us to Gatlang, our resting place for today. Gatlang is a beautiful village settled by the Tamang people. It provides us a wonderful experience of the Tamang culture and way of life.

  • Day : 5: Trek to Somdang via Parvati Kunda

    6 -7 hours

    Goddess Parvati is the wife of Lord Shiva. Parvati Kunda is a lake named after her. It is believed that she used to bath in this mountain Lake. We will also visit Yuri Kharka, an yak grazing pasture. We will walk past the beautiful pine and rhododendron forests. Khurpu Danda Pass (3,710 m) lies on our way. After crossing Khurpu Pass, we will reach Somdang river. This river forms the boundary between Dhading and Rasuwa district. We will also meet the majestic Chukarma waterfall on our way. We will reach Somdang after a long walk and rest there overnight.

  • Day : 6: Trek to Pasang La Pass
  • 1,674 m/5,492 ft
    5-6 hours of walk

    We will leave Somdang behind and head for Pasang La Pass. It is also known as Pangsang Pass. There are many grazing pastures on our way. Pasang La Pass provides a wonderful view of the nearby snow clad mountains. We will get panoramic view of mountains in the Annapurna, Manaslu and Ganesh mountain ranges from Pasang La Pass.  The region around the pass is famous for medicinal herbs. In the old days, people from the surrounding area used to collect the herbs and take them for trade to Tibet. they used to exchange the herbs for salt, clothing items and food. There is a monastery at the Pass. We will slowly descend downhill from Pasang La. We will walk through dense green rhododendron and pine forests. Our destination is Tipling village, where we will rest overnight.

  • Day : 7: Trek to Chalise
  • 1,674 m/5,492 ft

    We will head for Chalise village today. The place is settled by Gurung, Ghale, Tamang and Kami people. Their tradition is unique. Maruni dance, Shelo (of Tamang people), Ghatu dance and Dohori are among the cultural attraction in Chalise. Most of the dances are performed during specific time of the year. The Maruni dance is performed during the Dashain and Tihar festival, the Hai Nelo dance is performed during Tihar and Ghatu dance during Chandi Purnima on the Nepali month of Chaitra. There are no guest houses but the hospitality and the brilliant local food more than makes up for it.


  • Day :8: Trek to Sherthung
  • We will trek to the beautiful Sherthung village today. Sherthung and Chalise are sister villages. Shertthung is a village inhabited mainly by the Tamang people. In their language, Sherthung means a place of gold. It is believed, according to stories, that the place is rich in gold deposits. There is a natural hot spring nearby Sherthung. There is a natural hot water spring near Sherthung. We will wash away our fatigue in the hot spring and head back to Chalise for overnight rest.


  • Day : 9: Trek to Jharlang
  • 3,000 m/9,842 ft

    We will trek to the village of Jharlang or Ungul today. Mani Danda is at a distance of half hours trek from Chalise. It provides a beautiful view of the Ganesh Mountain. After that we will reach Chaap Danda and Bhandari Bhir via Deul Danda. These places have been identified as potential places for rock climbing. We will cross Lisne Jungle (forest) and reach Jharlang for overnight stay. Jharlang is a beautiful Tamang village of around 200 houses.

  • Day :10: Trek to Dhading Besi and drive to Kathmandu
  • Today is the last part of our trek. We will trek to Dhading Besi (The district headquater of Dhanding). We will cross the Ankhu Khola river on our way. We will meet beautiful villages like Katunje, Kimdang Phedi and Jyamrung village before we reach Dhading Besi. We will end our trek at Dhading Besi. We’ll board on a vehicle waiting for us and head back to Kathmandu.The drive to Kathmandu takes about three hours.

  • Day :11: Departure
  • We will bid you farewell following a small traditional Nepali ceremony. You will be dropped off at the Tribhuvan International Airport, from where you will head back to your destination. You also have the option of extending your trip by taking part in other treks.
